What the Banner?

Create your own banner for lessHow important is a reliable print shop for us designers? You know it: it’s essential! How terrible is it to create a top-notch design and your printing house messes it up.

As a full-service design agency, we can’t limit ourselves to delivering comps and then wander off. We rely on dependable vendors for just about anything. I’m sure you’ll agree with me. Even if you don’t do print and you’re specialized in web design, you want to recommend quality when it comes to web hosting.

The quality our suppliers deliver reflects on us as valuable designers. That’s why you should always be on the lookout for the best quality and the best price - because, in addition to providing quality material to your client, you also don’t want to ruin your margin.

So, on a quick note for design studios, let me share this with you. Read on…

The Usefulness of Meaninglessness

Use PR skills to trigger word of mouth effects

When was the last time someone recommended something to you? Think about it: on an average day, how often do you hear someone say “these are good, you gotta check them out”, or even “those are the best”? The most interesting question, however, is: to what extent are you aware of the power of word of mouth?

I’ll tell you what happened to me today. Read on…

Welcome Designers who Blog readers!

Designers who blog features Nubloo.com

Designers who Blog readers, welcome to Nubloo!

On Friday, Nubloo got featured on the Designers who Blog website. To all who just clicked on to us, I’m very happy to say:

Hi, come on in and take a look!

We’re a blog by designers, for designers and people in the creative business. Here, you will find a variety of posts about the things we like: design and creativity. We’re creatives ourselves, and this blog is our forum for expressing the things we love to do.

So who are we?

Nubloo is mainly run by yours truly, a creative person in the design business. My name is Robert Augustin and I started sketching, drawing and doodling back in school, somewhere around the 6th grade, mostly to the nuisance of my dear teachers. That quickly became my passion and today, 17 years later, it is what I do for a living.

When I say we, I mean our small team of upcoming creatives. Our command center is Effex Medien, a young and innovative design studio located in South Germany. While I’m traveling throughout the world, mainly between the premises of our venture and the U.S. East Coast, where I am with my wonderful fiancĂ©e, I come across many inspiring styles, people and insights, which I like to share with the readers of this blog.

As for you, our new readers,

just take a look around and see if you can find something you like. For instance, you could start with our 5×5 Secret Rules in Design and Advertising series. Or, if you feel lucky, you can also just use our tag cloud to the upper right and take a pop at the category you crave most.

I hope you like what you find here. Because if you do, you can then leave a comment on our site - we appreciate your feedback very much!

For our readers who know us already, I highly recommend taking a look at our new friends at designers-who-blog.com. The site is run by Cat, an expert in the design business and a very talented writer. Her blog features designers from all over the world (now us, too!) and is really worth a look.

Thanks for poppin’ in and enjoy your stroll at Nubloo.com!

The Vibr8 Bros. on Pixel Fonts & Shapes

Illustrator tutorial: how to avoid blurred pixel fonts

Have you ever worked with pixel fonts? They are nice & neat and can add a lot to your designs - if you know how to handle them.

And that’s the point: if you’ve used pixel fonts in your designs before, you may know that they need your attention to a larger extent than usual fonts. You need to set their position, alignment, size and line spacing correctly in order to make them look sharp.

On our sister site, the Vibr8 Bros. demonstrate exactly how you can make those cool pixel fonts work for you. Not only that, they also explain two more ‘cases’ regarding blurry pixels - issues almost every designer had to fight with at one point or another: Shapes using pixel borders (strokes), and 1-pixel lines. I’m sure you’ll find that information very useful!

In their newest article, How to avoid blurred Pixel Fonts & Shapes, you will find what you need to know about the above, with illustrated examples. And if you’re interested: at the end of the article, the Vibr8 Bros. explain exactly why paying attention to the little things is so important. Yes, pixels!

A Guide to Design Presentation: How to Sell your Work

how-to-sell-your-work_nubloo-com.jpg

If you’ve read my last week’s post about business relationships for designers, you know that in my experience, it’s of the upmost importance that you lead your client to the most significant design you’ve come up with. Why? Because when it comes to design, you surpass your client’s qualification. So it’s up to you to pick the best design for her needs. Because as a professional, you know which design will lead to the expected results - in contrast to your client, who is much more likely to be biased by personal taste.

Small business owners and first-time design buyers usually fall into this category. Read on…
